The City of Yarra engaged Capire to deliver a community engagement program for Stages 3 and 4 of the Wellington Street Strategic Cycling Corridor. This project focused on improving safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians along the northern section of Wellington Street in Collingwood.
The engagement aimed to inform the community about the project, to identify current issues impacting all stakeholders, and to gather ideas to enhance active transport on Wellington Street. Feedback was primarily collected through an online survey developed by the City of Yarra.
Capire’s engagement activities included pop-up community events; door-to-door outreach with local businesses; and direct conversations with a diverse group of stakeholders, such as residents, commuters, local business representatives and a school located on the corridor. Capire also reached out to relevant organisations and leaders of active transport groups to collect additional feedback.
Capire analysed over 300 responses through thematic analysis, compiling a report that organised the main issues and ideas by theme and location. This report provided Council with essential insights to guide the design of bike lanes and streetscape improvements for Wellington Street’s northern section.
