Stonnington Housing Strategy – Stage 2 Engagement

The City of Stonnington developed a draft Housing Strategy to address the needs of its growing and changing population. The strategy, which aims to guide housing supply over the next 15 years, focuses on themes such as neighbourhood character, affordability, sustainability and open space. Stage 2 engagement sought to validate the strategy’s vision and themes, while also identifying community concerns and suggestions. 

Approach
Capire designed and delivered an engagement program that ran from 24 April to 5 June 2024. Engagement activities included an online survey, three community forums, and the collection of written submissions.  

The engagement program reached almost 300 participants and provided opportunities for diverse community voices to be heard. Key tools included an interactive map on Council’s website and targeted communications delivered through social media, newsletters and postcards. 

Outcomes 
Recommendations from the community included clearer guidelines and improved council communication to enhance future engagement efforts. Feedback will shape the City of Stonnington’s final Housing Strategy, ensuring it reflects community values while accommodating future growth.
