The program recognised that visitor opinions of Federation Square are as varied as its users, and that the project required consideration of a wide range of government interests, portfolios, and local government views. Capire worked alongside the DJPR to manage the review process of Federation Square including a two staged community and stakeholder engagement consultation process.
The first stage of engagement was conducted over a two-month period creating an understanding of what 1,500 community, stakeholders and visitors love, want to protect, or imagine differently about Federation Square. The first stage served as opportunity to introduce the review, garner user experience and local insights. The second stage of the engagement tested the Stage One findings to inform the development of a community vision for Federation Square. The Stage Two engagement approach provided an endorsement of the Stage One engagement findings through targeted focus group discussions.
The consultation process continues to drive a greater partnership between tenants, stakeholders, and management of Melbourne’s iconic landmark.
