During 2016 and 2017, Capire supported the City of Casey with the engagement for their Council Plan and long-term financial planning. The first project was Casey Next, Council’s largest ever community engagement program. Casey Next reached around 480,000 people, and more than 3,600 people provided feedback.
The findings from Casey Next became the foundation of Casey’s Council Plan 2017-2021, which Capire helped to develop through workshops with councillors and staff. Following the drafting of the Council Plan, Capire supported Casey to establish their first ever People’s Panel. The purpose of this Panel was to explore and make recommendations on the challenges Council was experiencing, including providing services and infrastructure for a rapidly increasing population in a rate capped environment. The Panel made 24 recommendations, with Council adopting all of them.
The VAGO Local Governments Audit 2016-17 highlighted Casey’s engagement with their community over this period as an example of best practice. The project was also shortlisted in the 2018 IAP2 Core Values awards.
